I repeat to your Eminence what I said the other time to our Holy Father Pius VII, of holy and ever glorious memory, when I submitted these Rules: that if he had cancelled them from the first word to the last I would have been most happy, since I longed then and even now, to be not only subject in everything, but not even to move a step if it is not conformed to the will or pleasure of the Supreme Vicar of Jesus Christ.
